The Search Site is a powerful tool for
searching for the businesses and organisations your are looking to find
wherever they are in the world and the web.
Here we try in simple terms to offer some
search tips and hints which should enable you to achieve more of the
relevant results that you require.

Business and Organisation Searches
- Seaching for a Type of service or business
If you're looking for a Builder, simply enter "Build" into the I am looking for box.
You don't have to enter the whole word, just the first few characters. Obviously entering more characters will refine the search, for example
"Builders" will result in a wider search than "Builders merchants"
Usually there will be several business categories that match your search, in this case a list of all near and related categories will be
presented, and you can further refine your selection by clicking on one of them.
Your search results can be narrowed further by specifying a Location or Postcode or Country.
- Seaching for a business by Name
If you know the name of the business, or part of the name, simply enter it in the
Or a Company called box.
This will result in a powerful search of all businesses with a Company Name like your entry!
Once again, your search results can be narrowed further by specifying a Location or Postcode or Country.

General Web Searches
- Seaching by word or phrase
If you're looking for gardening, simply enter "gardening" into the Web Page Search box.
You don't have to enter the whole phrase, just the first few characters. Obviously entering more words will refine the search, for example
"gardening" will result in a wider search than "Herb gardens"
Your search results can be narrowed further by specifying a Country.
All web searches may be filtered for Adult Content, simply tick the Exclude Adult Sites tickbox to remove them from your search results.
- Advanced Searches
Hopefully the features on the Advanced Search page are self explanatory. There are a multitude of ways to filter your search, most of
them combinational e.g: "Animals", but not including "Cats".
As ever, your search results can be restricted to a specific Country.

Web Directory Searches
The Web Directory organises each website into Categories, and Topics within those categories. The directory may be searched
in it's entirety, or filtered by Category and Topic within that Category. It's a bit like using a phone directory, and can simplify
your search greatly.
For example, if your looking for "Hubble telescope", it's far more likely to be under the headings
Science - Astronomy.
The Directory Home Page lists all the Categories as links, each link leading to the Topics within that Category.
It also lists the most popular categories below.
As with the General Web Search, search results can be restricted to a specific Country.
- Seaching Entire Directory
If you're looking for gardening, simply enter "gardening" into the Search Entire Directory box.
At this level in the directory, it's the same as searching the web.
- Seaching by Topic or Category
Further refines the scope of your search by "drilling down" into the Directory tree structure.
Can result in highly specific searches, and therefore limited results.
